What applies in every zone
- Anchoring is prohibited in the zone, and often around it: pick up a buoy, or go and anchor elsewhere, on sand.
- 3 or 5 knots in the zone, depending on the order; only one boat per buoy, no rafting up.
- Each buoy is for a given size: do not pick up a buoy intended for a smaller boat.
- Swimming: prohibited in some zones (Sainte-Anne, Villefranche, Agay), allowed in others (Cavalaire, le Rayol): read the sign or the order.
These are not buoy zones
- The baie des Canoubiers (Saint-Tropez): three zones where you anchor with your own anchor, for boats under 24 m (order 297/2026).
- Saint-Aygulf (Fréjus): clean anchoring zones, using your own anchor, not buoys (order 270/2026).
- The anse de l’Olivette (Antibes) and the mouth of the Béal (Cannes) are ZMELs, but nothing has been published about visitor buoys.
- Beaulieu, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cap-d’Ail, Mandelieu, Golfe-Juan, Théoule, Menton: no buoy zone in the orders in force.
Further west: Port-Cros and Porquerolles
Bagaud (Port-Cros): 68 buoys, from 15 April to 15 October; free from 8 am to 6 pm, paid and by booking at night, 5 nights at most; €0.65 per m² for the first two nights, then the price doubles (National Park). Porquerolles has no buoys yet: the opening of some 340 buoys is being considered from 2027 onwards (National Park).
Frequently asked questions
Do you need to book a buoy in Cannes, at the Îles de Lérins?
No. The 30 visitor buoys at Sainte-Anne, north of Sainte-Marguerite, are free; you declare yourself on arrival, on VHF channel 9 or on 04 93 94 37 71, from 9 am to 6 pm.
Do you have to pay for the Croûton buoys in Antibes?
No, they are free by day and by night. Pick up a free buoy and register with the QR code it carries; 24 hours at most, then 48 hours before coming back.
How do you book a buoy in Villefranche?
